Scoring Points in 2013
How will points be scored in 2013? With the new U.S. Majors Tour and its own points system, plus National Racing being its own entity, it can be a bit confusing. Let's try to make sense of it all:
Points in regular National races are scored as before: 12-9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 to the top nine finishers. 10th and below get zero (but it's still a finish).
Points in Majors races are scored 22-19-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-1 to the top 20 finishers. 21st and below get zero (still a finish).
Majors points are scored by SCCA and totals may be found at www.scca.com; click on Club Racing, then Majors. Points are scored only in the conference in which you are racing (MiDiv is in the Mid-States Conference, along with Southwest and Rocky Mountain Divisions). There are no “out-of-conference” points, but you can score points separately in more than one conference.
National Racing points are scored by your MiDiv Pointskeeper (Rocky Entriken) and totals will be posted on www.midiv.org. As before, you can score your best seven finishes, including up to three Out-of-Division finishes.
Majors races in the Midwest Division are scored in with National points, but use the Majors points scale.
Majors races in any other division (including SW and RM), or any other conference (June Sprints, for example) may still be included with a National points score as Out-Of-Division points.
The maximum possible National Points score becomes 154 points, if you win all four MiDiv Majors (Hallett, Gateway) plus three more elsewhere.
It may all be different again in 2014 when Majors become the top level of Club Racing, Nationals go away and Regionals are redefined. Stay tuned.
